The coalition of State employee unions opened insurance negotiations with the State of Minnesota on Monday, April 9 by presenting the unions’ opening proposals. The State presented their opening proposals to the unions on April 16.
The Union Coalition Bargaining Team is led by Council 5 Executive Director Eliot Seide as chief spokesperson. The team members include representatives from: AFSCME Council 5; Minnesota Law Enforcement Association (MLEA); Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA); Inter-Faculty Organization (IFO); Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF); Minnesota State University Association of Administrative & Service Faculty/Teamsters 320 (MSUAASF); Minnesota Government Engineers Council (MGEC); Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE); State Residential Schools Education Association (SRSEA); and Middle Management Association (MMA) Mike Bona, Karen Wagner, and Ron Rollins.
The State and Union Insurance Proposals are going in very different directions. The Union proposals focus on wellness, healthy employees and affordability – making health insurance premiums affordable to all state workers, making the out of pockets affordable to all state workers, giving all state workers access to affordable clinics, affordable maintenance drugs and office visits for state workers and their families.
The State proposals focus on increasing the employee share of health insurance premiums, two more years of major increases in out-of-pocket costs.
Updates will be posted as negotiations proceed.
